Although George Eliot was noted primarily for her fiction, she wrote poems all her adult life, frequently using passages of them as epigraphs in her novels. Her poetry includes "O May I Join the Choir Invisible," "Agatha," and a sonnet sequence entitled BROTHER AND SISTER, based on her own childhood and her beloved brother, Isaac.
