Jan is surprised that for the first time she has not won the lead role in the school play but is selected to be stage manager instead. The girl who got the lead, Kerry, is new in school, and even Jan has to admit she is perfect for the part. Willing to be a good sport, Jan works hard as the stage manager and even tries to win Kerry's friendship. As Jan and Kerry get to know each other better, they realize that their relationship is deeper than a regular friendship and that they have fallen in love with each other.
