The Gods Themselves Couldn't Have Done It Better
Jun 21, 2001

Pros: realistic non-humanoid aliens, glimpse into how ordinary events affect science
Cons: ending a bit too tidy
Bottom Line: A short trilogy under one cover, The Gods Themselves is Asimov's finest novel, containing the most consistent and believable portrayal of non-humanoid aliens I've ever seen.

Pros: Structurally and conceptually interesting.
Cons: The plot couldn't fill a thimble.
Bottom Line: Can bureaucracy and personal pride stifle truth even in the scientific community?

A classic masterwork by an acknowledged master!
Jun 16, 2006

Pros: Perhaps the most compelling, unique vision of an alien culture ever penned!
Cons: It takes a little attention to link the three stories perfectly.
Bottom Line: A beautifully, written piece of sci-fi that grows even more compelling with time as the science of cosmology expands into the notion of parallel universes.
